Dr. Edward L. Murray III is a clinical psychologist in private practice at the Alafia
Wellness Center. In his practice, he works extensively with children and families,
as well as individuals and organizations. Dr. Murray began creating tools for
psychological and spiritual growth, and educational advancement early in his career
when he was asked to work with a large Native American population (The Colorado River
Indian Tribes) whom were not responsive to traditional methods of psychotherapy.

Dr. Murray is a member and past Chairperson of the Children Having Children, Teen
Pregnancy Prevention Program
, an organization that fosters decision-making and problem
solving skills in young people. He was born in Ft. Mead, Maryland to Melma Murray (an
accomplished painter) and Edward Murray (a career military officer, and successful
businessman). He has lived in many different parts of the country, and overseas. He
believes this experience helped him to cultivate an understanding that human problems are
similar across different cultures and circumstances.

He was trained and still actively participates in martial arts (Judo;
and took a silver medal in his division in the 1997 U.S. Judo Nationals)
and he writes, plays, and sings music. He incorporates lessons from
these areas in his professional work and his personal life. Judo, among
other things, has taught him that one must “get back up and try again,
when life “throws you to the ground”. Music has taught him of
the inspiration that can be found when one works to be in
harmony with life. Dr. Murray received his undergraduate
degree from Indiana University and his Masters and
Doctoral degrees from Arizona State University.
